Sam Underhill: England flanker an injury doubt for Six Nations
England wing Sam Underhill has been ruled out of the Six Nations through injury after Bath announced he would need ankle surgery.
The 28-year-old suffered an ankle injury during the game at Bath Lost to Premier League champions Northampton 35-34 on Sunday.
Bass released a medical update saying he will “undergo surgery to correct a new ankle injury” but “there is no set timetable for recovery.”
Since Underhill was left out of England’s 2023 Rugby World Cup squad, he has become a regular feature on the open flank in Steve Borthwick’s starting XI.
He started for England after the 2023 World Cup and featured in the recent autumn defeats to South Africa and Japan, scoring in both games.
It was an ankle injury that kept Underhill, who has made 40 caps for his country, absent from Borthwick’s side’s two autumn Test matches against New Zealand and Australia.
He joins winger Emmanuel Faye-Waboso in England’s growing injury list In danger of missing the Six Nations due to dislocated shoulder, as a full back George Furbank struggled with a broken arm.
