Miron Muslic: Plymouth Argyle appoint Austrian boss to succeed Wayne Rooney

Plymouth Argyle have appointed Myron Muslik as their new head coach.

The 42-year-old Austrian signed a three-and-a-half-year contract after replacing Wayne Rooney at the club’s bottom side in the Championship.

Muslic most recently served as head coach of Belgian side Club Brugge from September 2022 until his dismissal last month.

The Bosnian-born former striker – who played most of his career in Austria – is Argyle’s first-ever foreign manager or manager.

Chairman Simon Hallett told the club’s website: “Milon has a clear vision of how to take Argyle forward and has shown a deep tactical awareness which is a clear indication of how he wants the team to be built and played.”

“He received rave reviews for his time at Club Brugge, taking a team from the bottom of the league into European football, which is no mean feat.

“I would like to welcome him to the club and look forward to seeing him make an immediate impact.”

Argyle’s interim head coach Kevin Nanskivel will become part of Muslic’s backroom team, with other coaching positions to be announced at a later date.

He will be in the stands for Saturday’s FA Cup third round tie at Brentford before taking charge of his first game in the Championship when the Pilgrims host Oxford United on Tuesday night.
