BBC breaking newsBritish Broadcasting Corporation

Three teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 17-year-old boy was stabbed at a town bus stop.

Thomas Taylor died in hospital near Bedford bus station following the incident at 17:50 GMT on Wednesday.

A 17-year-old suspect and two 18-year-old teenagers were arrested on suspicion of murder and were detained by police for questioning.

A man in his 60s was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of assisting an offender but has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Inspector Richard Stott, who led the investigation by Bedfordshire Police’s major crime unit, described Mr Taylor’s death as an “absolutely shocking incident”.

He said: “We would like to reassure the wider community that police are conducting all inquiries and have increased patrols in the surrounding area.”

Samantha Taylor penned a written tribute to her son earlier this week, saying: “He was really looking forward to his future and we are absolutely devastated.

“He was very loving, family-oriented and a very smart boy.

“Any room he walked into brightened up and he truly cared about people and his life.”

Inspector Stott appealed for anyone with information, such as those who were in Greenhill Street or the nearby area at the time, to contact police.

“We are also keen to speak to anyone who knows anyone involved,” he added.
