Women’s Ashes 2025: England’s only warm-up match abandoned because of rain in Sydney

England’s only warm-up match to prepare for the Women’s Ashes has been called off due to rain in Sydney.

After several delays due to heavy rain, the match was reduced to 35 overs per side and the Australian Governor XI’s innings ended with 183 wins and 8 losses in 28.2 overs.

England then set a target of 188 in 28 overs but play did not resume at North Sydney Oval.

However, captain Heather Knight said during the delivery that she would have preferred the bowler to go over the ball on leg.

Seamers Alyssa Healy and Georgia Voll combined for 91 runs in 11.2 overs, with the 21-year-old Voll impressing with 57 off 42 balls.

The pair, along with Georgia Wareham, are the only players in the XI to feature in Australia’s Ashes squad at the same time, with leg-spinner all-rounder Wareham scoring just three runs as the England spinners fought back after a poor start.

Sophie Ecclestone won two consecutive games to chase the score to 3-27. The score in the middle once shook to 147-6, but Rhys McKenna and Nicole… Nicole Faltum’s late boundary helped the team start to recover until the rain returned.
