Sunset Fire sparks in Runyon Canyon area of the Hollywood Hills
Firefighters say a “very dangerous and explosive” brush fire has broken out in the Runyon Canyon area of the Hollywood Hills, prompting the evacuation of some residents.
The Sunset Fire initially broke out around 5:30 p.m. in the 2300 block of N. Solar Drive near Wattles Park, according to the fire department. Los Angeles Fire Department. As of 6:15 p.m., firefighters said the fire had burned more than 40 acres of vegetation.
SkyCal was overhead as huge flames swept through the area. Multiple water helicopters could be seen spraying liquid near the fire, while several ground crews from the Los Angeles Fire Department and the Los Angeles County Fire Department worked below.
“We must emphasize: we need people to comply with our immediate evacuation protocols,” said Margaret Stewart, public information officer for the Los Angeles Fire Department. “We are asking people to evacuate as early as possible in caution areas because of the potential for rapid spread of this. ”

Just after 6 p.m., LAFD issued a mandatory evacuation order from Laurel Canyon Blvd (west) to Mulholland Dr (north) to Highway 101 (east) to Hollywood Blvd (south).
