President El-Sisi Receives Prime Minister of Greece Mitsotakis – Africa.com
Today, President Sisi met with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on the sidelines of the 10th Summit of the Trilateral Cooperation Mechanism between Egypt, Cyprus and Greece.
Ambassador Mohamed Shenawi, spokesperson of the Presidency, said that during the meeting, the two sides emphasized the depth and solidity of the historical relations between Egypt and Greece. They also reaffirmed their commitment to significantly strengthen cooperative efforts to promote partnerships.
The focus of the talks was how to chart a course for deepening bilateral cooperation in various fields, especially the economic field. President Sisi and Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis confirmed the urgent need to strengthen cooperation within the framework of the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF) and work towards the implementation of power interconnection projects between the two countries. They also agreed on the importance of strengthening cooperation in the field of migration and seasonal labor recruitment and expanding the scope of bilateral cooperation to cover all areas of mutual interest.
The discussion also touched on regional developments, primarily the situation in Palestine. President Sisi and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed the urgent need to achieve a ceasefire and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid and relief to the Gaza Strip. They reaffirmed the vital importance of enforcing a two-state solution, while affirming the need to consolidate the Lebanese ceasefire agreement and ensure the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. President Sisi and the Greek Prime Minister clearly emphasized that it is imperative to prevent the escalation of regional tensions and create a calm and stable environment.
In addition, the two sides also exchanged views on the situations in Syria, Libya and Sudan. Both sides stressed the importance of maintaining the security, stability, unity and territorial integrity of these countries, while expressing the urgent need to launch a comprehensive political process conducive to achieving the ideal state of peace and stability to protect the resources of these countries and their people.
