Jaden Philogene: Ipswich Town agree £20m deal for Aston Villa winger
Ipswich Town have agreed a £20m deal to sign Aston Villa winger Jaden Philokine.
The 22-year-old will undergo a medical at Portman Road, which will end his brief six-month return to Villa Park.
Philokine also had interest from European sides, including from La Liga, but Ipswich would ultimately end their pursuit of the England Under-21 international with manager Kieran McKenna’s influence proving is crucial.
Ipswich agreed a fee of around £18m with Hull City in the summer, but Villa activated their buy-back option – with Villa selling Philokine to the Tigers in 2023.
Since Villa had a 30% sale clause in the agreement, Hull City received approximately £13.5 million.
After opting to rejoin Unai Emery’s side, he made just four starts, including a Champions League tie against Bayern Munich, and made 11 substitute appearances.
Ipswich have maintained their interest and have now persuaded Philokine, who was keen to work with McKenna last summer, to move to Suffolk.
The Tractor Boys, who are fighting for survival as they sit 18th in the Premier League, are looking to bolster their squad and have signed defender Ben Godfrey on loan from Atalanta.
