It’s About Time AI Learned How to Do Our Laundry
A new tech company claims to have found a solution to one of humanity’s most mundane chores, and CNET’s team on the ground saw the products in action at: CES 2025.
Tenet’s artificial intelligence laundry robot Hopefully a new, more efficient way to wash and dry clothes. During a major tech show in Las Vegas, Tenet and TCL Globallaunched two separate prototypes with the same goal: to make your life easier.
The smaller of the two is shaped like an egg and has a robotic arm that hangs clothes to dry inside the machine. My first impression is that it looks small, so no matter how efficiently it works, it probably won’t get the whole job done quickly.
But there’s another feature that could be groundbreaking if it works: The company says it can fold laundry, too. We haven’t seen it in action yet, so we can’t speak to its efficacy. (Although we will note Clothes-folding robot makes a splash at CES Nothing has been accomplished in the past. )
Look at this: I made a robot vacuum that picked up my socks
It’s unclear how many pieces of clothing it can hold and dry at the same time, but if it’s actually a three-in-one machine that can wash, dry, and fold itself, it could revolutionize the world of laundry.
There is also a separate front loading washing machineThe company calls it an AI-driven clothing recognition model, and it seems promising. Tenet says that by using cameras and light sensors inside the machine, it will learn the best way to wash your clothes so they continue to look great and be as clean as possible. Then, when the wash is complete, it dries your clothes as well. (We’ll note that combo washer-dryers have been around for years, but have never been great at drying.)

Is this the key to cleaner, smarter laundry?
An AI-powered clothing recognition model — which appears to be able to hold more laundry than an egg-shaped AI laundry robot — uses AI to determine the best way to do your laundry. The washing machine can accurately detect the type and quantity of clothes you put in the machine within seconds of closing the door.
If you put a dark garment into a pile of white clothes, the smart screen on your washing machine will quickly warn you that the color may bleed. After the warning, you have two options. You can remove dark-colored clothing from the load, or you can leave it in and let your washing machine choose the wash program that’s best for preventing color bleeding during the wash cycle. It is said that the clothes will also be dried after the cycle is completed, so there is no need to worry about throwing the clothes into a separate machine.
During a demonstration at CES 2025, our on-site team saw the washing machine in action and were impressed with how quickly and accurately it recognized clothing items put into the machine. When a cycle starts, a stain index and timeline will also appear, showing where the machine is in the cycle, and it will adjust the amount of detergent and water used during the cycle based on the needs of the clothes.
Also, like Many other home products unveiled at CES 2025 (as well as devices already on the market), the device can be connected to an app that will alert you when the laundry is complete.
When will these be available for purchase?
Tenet’s AI Laundry is expected to launch in the United States by the end of 2025, but pricing has not yet been revealed.
At the Tenet booth at CES 2025, a sentence that resembled a mission statement was displayed, and if this technology proves successful, it may predict our future. It reads:
“By integrating human-like perception, decision-making and execution into our AI laundry robots, we aim to free people from repetitive household chores, allowing them to focus on more creative and fulfilling aspects of their lives ”
