Dani Olmo: Barcelona forward granted temporary permission to play

Dani Olmo and Paulo Victor will be allowed to play for Barcelona after the Spanish National Sports Council (CSD) granted the club temporary permission to register them.

Both players are summer signings who were only registered for the first half of the season due to Barcelona’s inability to meet La Liga’s salary cap restrictions.

On Saturday, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and La Liga rejected Barcelona’s request to register them.

However, the Department of Corrections stepped in on Wednesday after the club called for precautionary measures to be taken and the pair allowed to play for a short period of time.

Strikers Olmo, 26, and Victor, 23, will feature ahead of the CSD’s final ruling on the club’s case against La Liga and the RFEF.

The CSD said in a statement: “This measure is temporary until the appeal filed by the club and the above-mentioned player is finally resolved, suspending the implementation of (the decision of La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation) and revoking the sports license of the above-mentioned player. “.

“It also maintains the validity of the said license until the appeal is finally resolved.”

La Liga was informed of the CSD decision on Wednesday afternoon but is still awaiting further clarification on the details.

“The resolution was adopted without forwarding the appeal to La Liga or the Spanish Football Federation and without giving either party an opportunity to present arguments. La Liga is therefore currently unaware of the grounds raised by the players and FC Barcelona in their appeal,” La Liga the league said.

“La Liga will thoroughly review the content of this decision with a view to filing an appropriate appeal, but also expresses its total disagreement with the decision.”

The move came too late and Olmo and Victor were ineligible for selection Wednesday’s Spanish Super Cup semi-finals against Saudi Arabian club Athletic Club, but after Barca won 2-0, the pair can feature in Sunday’s final against either Real Madrid or Mallorca.

Olmo – a £51m summer move from RB Leipzig – is registered as a special exemption for the first half of the season as Barcelona’s difficult financial situation means they are unable to meet La Liga’s strict salary cap restrictions.

The club had previously asked to register the pair Rejected by two courts.

Barcelona thereafter It is said, external La Liga’s new stadium, still under construction, has reportedly sold VIP boxes for €100m (£83.42m) to enable it to operate within La Liga’s Financial Fair Play scheme.

However, the document was sent three days after La Liga’s deadline.

La Liga said Barcelona have now met financial requirements after Olmo and Victor’s licenses expired, while regulations prevent players from “obtaining another license at the same club with which they are already linked” in the same season.

According to reports in Spain, Barcelona believe the rule is outdated and they now have the funds when the transfer window opens so should be able to register the duo.
