Women’s Ashes 2025: Tammy Beaumont and Ash Gardner call for more Tests
Women’s Test matches are rarely played – England captain Heather Knight is England’s most capped player since 2011 with 13 – and Australia’s Gardner says one-off Tests can sometimes feel like ” a form”.
“It’s going to be difficult from a workload perspective to fit into our busy summer, but I’d love to see three in every game,” said Gardner, who is set to win the 2023 Ashes series took 23 wickets. Get out of rotation.
“Our two teams competed really well and we had some really good games against England in white-ball cricket. It will be cool to see that in the Test series because sometimes one-off games can feel a bit Like a game novelty.”
The 2023 Ashes began the five-day Test at Trent Bridge with Australia winning and taking a 4-0 lead before England fought back with a brilliant white-ball series win to end the series 8-8.
Tests will revert to four days for the upcoming series, with day-night matches at the Melbourne Cricket Ground starting from January 30.
England need to win the series outright to regain the Ashes for the first time in a decade, while a draw would be enough for Australia to retain the trophy.
“Coming to Australia and playing against them is one of the hardest things you can do in men’s or women’s cricket,” Beaumont added.
“So if we can come out on top, I think it will be a career highlight for a lot of us and we’re confident about that.”
