  • The Merck Foundation has announced the winners of the Merck Foundation Africa Research Summit – 2024 MARS Award Winners, with 5 researchers from 5 different African countries being awarded in two categories – Best African Female Researcher and Best African young researchers.
  • The Merck Foundation also announces a call for applications for the new Merck Foundation Africa Research Summit – MARS Awards 2025 to empower African women and youth in STEM fields, with a special focus on “Science Research in Women’s Health and Reproductive Healthcare” role”.

Merck Foundation (www.Merck-Foundation.com), Charity arm of Germany’s Merck KGaA announces winners 2024 Merck Foundation Africa Research Summit (MARS) Award, partnership In partnership with International Federation of Fertility Societies – IFFS, African Reproductive Care Society – ARCS, Manipal University and African Union Scientific and Technical Research Council To recognize African researchers for their valuable research work and contribution to the empowerment of women and youth in STEM fields in Africa, with special attention “The role of scientific research in women’s health and reproductive care.”

Senator Rasha Kelej, Ph.D., CEO, Merck Foundation and Chair, Merck Foundation Africa Research Summit – MARS said: “I am extremely proud to recognize the achievements of MARS Award recipients since 2016. This year, we are honored six winners Divided into two categories: “Best African Female Researcher Award” and “Best African Young Researcher Award”.

The awards recognize their significant contributions to research, with particular emphasis on the efforts of African female researchers, who remain underrepresented in the field. Through the MARS Award, our mission is to empower young researchers in Africa and to specifically encourage and support female researchers by increasing their research capabilities and promoting their important role in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) . “

The winner is “Best African Female Researcher Award” and “Best African Young Researcher Award” Will attend research training at a top research institute in India.

“I’m also delighted to share this with you all, and as promised, we are offering entry to the first place winner in each category 11th Merck Foundation African and Asian Distinguished Person Award However, a recent study in Tanzania Sir Jules Irenge Monganet able to participate”, share Senator Rasha Kelley.

  • Dr. Christian Chasim Rapp, Gabon (Second place)

topic: Neonatal mortality and factors affecting neonatal survival in neonatal intensive care units in northern Ethiopia: a prospective cohort study

“I am also pleased to announce a call for applications for a new version of the Guide Merck Foundation Africa Research Summit (MARS) 2024 Awards Ceremony. This year, special emphasis will once again be on “The role of scientific research in women’s health and reproductive care” additional Senator, Dr. Lassa Banana.

The Merck Foundation Africa Research Summit – MARS 2025 will receive scientific support from the African Union Science, Technology and Research Council (AU-STRC); the African Reproductive Care Society (ARCS) and the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE).

Mars Prize 2025 Details

Final year African PhD students and young researchers involved in research related to any of the following topics are invited to provide abstracts:

1) Women’s health

2) Infertility and reproductive health

All applicants should be primarily from African research institutions and universities, but collaborations within and outside Africa are also welcome.

  • The winner will be invited to participate in the 12thth Merck Foundation’s 2025 Africa Asia Excellence Award.
