Popular Japanese actor fired from low-alcohol beer ad after getting drunk and breaking into neighbor’s home

A well-known Japanese actor hired as a health spokesperson for low-alcohol beer has been fired for drunkenly breaking into a neighbor’s home, officials said.

Beverage giant Asahi Breweries hired Ryo Yoshizawa to shoot a commercial for its 3.5% Super Dry Dry Crystal beer. Yoshizawa was dubbed a “national treasure and handsome” by a fashion magazine.

But the 30-year-old, one of Japan’s most popular actors, returned home on December 30, perhaps after eating something stronger.

Yoshizawa was “drunk” and “accidentally broke into the apartment room next to his agency” amuse said in a statement on Monday.

Local media quoted Yoshizawa as telling police: “I lost my memory. I think I went in without asking because I wanted to use the toilet.”

“We have decided to terminate the contract with Yoshizawa,” Asahi Group Holdings spokesman Shiori Shimizu told AFP on Tuesday.

“As an alcoholic beverage company, we believe his behavior is unacceptable,” Shimizu said. “We will not use him in future advertising.”
