This Fuzzy Sloth Baby Is Probably the Cutest Robot I’ve Ever Seen and It’s Here at CES 2025
If you’re an avid follower of fashion, you know that handbag charms are having a moment right now. Most of these ornaments are gold chains with various shiny trinkets attached to them. But what if you want to join the trend, but also stand out? Consider this: I saw a baby robot sloth that I now clip onto my bag to add charm and reduce stress along the way CES 2025one of the largest technology exhibitions in the world.
Mirumi from Japan’s Yukai Engineering is a furry little robot that clings to the handle or strap of your handbag and peeks at passers-by while you go about your business. Why? To inspire joy, of course.
At first glance, Mirumi appears to be a fairly simple robot with just a rotating head. Spend a few minutes interacting with it, though, and you’ll find that there’s more to this furry creature than meets the eye. Instead of just moving around randomly, it uses internal sensors to scan its surroundings for people or objects, and once it spots something, it focuses on the thing or person that piques its interest. Mirumi initially seemed interested in me, but when I banged it hard, it shyly moved its head away.
Yukai Engineering says the robot was inspired by the feeling of making eye contact with a cute baby in public. But when Mirumi put her arm around my wrist and stared at me from behind my hand, the first thing I thought about was the meerkat dressed as Donald Duck that I encountered perched on a man’s shoulder at Tokyo’s Shibuya intersection. on the shoulders. Because of this experience, I can fully appreciate the unforgettable and joyful spark that comes from unexpected encounters with cute creatures in public places.
If you’re interested in making a stylish statement and believe fashion can be fun, Mirumi is definitely the perfect accessory for you. It’s said to be designed to mimic the cuteness of human babies, but look at this robot and you’ll see it doesn’t remind you much of a sloth. The product will launch later this year through a Kickstarter campaign and will cost less than $100.
