Linda De Sousa Abreu sentenced to 15 months in prison

A former HMP Wandsworth prison officer has been jailed for 15 months after being filmed having sex with a prisoner.

Linda De Sousa Abreu was identified by senior prison staff after the video was shared online and went viral.

The warden of Wandsworth Prison said Abreu’s actions destroyed years of work for female staff at the all-male prison “in less than a day”.

Abreu, 30, was arrested at Heathrow Airport before trying to board a flight to Madrid with her father after she admitted misconduct in public office.

In a partially written statement to Isleworth Crown Court, Wandsworth prison warden Andrew Davy said many female staff at Wandsworth prison had reported being “accosted” by prisoners. ” instances have increased and are now “considered fair game.”

The incident took place at Wandsworth Prison between June 26 and 28.

The court also heard further recordings of her having sex with the same prisoner were found on her prison body-worn camera and Abreu admitted having sex with the prisoner on other occasions.

Judge Martin Edmunds KC said the viral video was not isolated but part of a pattern of repeated behaviour.

A Prison Service spokesman said: “While the vast majority of Prison Service staff are hard-working and honest, by strengthening our anti-corruption unit and strengthening our vetting processes we are catching a few more who breach the rules. .

“As today’s sentencing demonstrates, we will not hesitate to take strong action if an officer does not meet our high standards.”

The Prison Officers Association (POA), which represents prison staff, said it recognized there were a small number of corrupt staff in prisons who undermined the work of others.
