Ben Godfrey: Ipswich sign defender on loan from Atalanta for rest of season
Ipswich Town have completed the loan signing of defender Ben Godfrey from Atalanta.
The England international has signed with the Premier League club until the end of the season, becoming their first signing of the January transfer window.
The 26-year-old has played just 22 minutes in Serie A since then Atalanta signed him from Everton last summer The cost is approximately £10 million.
“I can’t wait to meet the lads and get started,” said Godfrey, who won two England caps in 2021.
“I’ve really enjoyed speaking to the head coach (Kieran McKenna) and I’m really excited now to have the opportunity to work under him.”
Godfrey played a further 71 minutes in four further games in all competitions, including two Champions League games.
After joining Everton, he previously played 93 times for Everton. Transfer from Norwich City for £25m October 2020.
Godfrey played in Ipswich’s 2-2 draw with Fulham on Sunday, which means the Tractor Boys are 18th in the Premier League, behind Wolves on goal difference.
Godfrey added: “I watched a lot of games in the first half of the season and you could tell from those games that this team is very tight and the players are giving everything to achieve their goals.”
“I haven’t played as many games as I would like so far this season but I’m ready to contribute and looking forward to playing.”
