Australian Open qualifying 2025: Harriet Dart and Heather Watson win, Dan Evans out
Britain’s Harriet Dart and Heather Watson both reached the second round of Australian Open qualifying, but Dan Evans crashed out.
Third seed Dart, who recently dropped out of the world’s top 100, defeated Australian wild card player Lizette Cabrera 6-2 7-6 (7-5) in Melbourne.
After a hard battle, Watson defeated Serbian player Lola Radivojevic 7-5 6-7 (14-16) 6-2.
However, British men’s No. 5 singles player Evans was disappointed. He lost to Japan’s James Trotter 6-4 3-6 6-3.
Billy Harris, who has never reached the main draw at the Australian Open, will face Japan’s Yuta Shimizu in the first round of qualifying later on Monday.
Dart will face another Australian, Tyra Preston, in the next round on Tuesday, while Watson will take on American veteran Varvara Lepchenko.
Great Britain’s Katie Boulter, Emma Raducanu, Sonai Kartar, Judy Burrage, Jack Draper, Cameron Norrie and Jacob Fein Lidu can directly enter the main draw of the first major championship in 2025.
