Master Any Math Equation With This iOS 18 Trick
Math and conversions aren’t everyone’s strong suit, and that’s okay. With this iOS 18 Tip, you don’t have to open a calculator app to solve tricky equations or Google to find conversion rates. Instead, you can just use the Messages app.
Before iOS 18, if you wanted to figure out how to split the bill with a distant texting group, you had to use the Calculator app or Spotlight and then switch back to Messages. With iOS 18, you can perform multi-step calculations in Messages, as well as convert things like currency and temperature, without having to switch apps.

Here’s how to get Messages to perform calculations.
How to solve math problems in messages
To solve a mathematical equation in a message, enter the question in the text field and add the equal sign (=) and the solution will appear in the predictive text field on your keyboard. Click on the solution to add it to your text.
Messages can be solved by entering a simple equation into the text field, such as “2+2=”. The app can also solve equations using more complex formulas, such as the trigonometric functions of sine, cosine, and tangent. You need to include the equal sign (=) anyway in the end.
How to convert values in messages
Converting values in a message works similarly to solving math problems in an application. Type a value in the text box using the appropriate value marker (for example, F for degrees Fahrenheit or lbs for pounds), and then type the equal sign (=) and the predictive text field above the keyboard will display the conversion results.
If you don’t specify what to convert, Predictive Text will select what to convert. Don’t worry – it won’t try to convert pounds to minutes. The message will show conversions for other similar units, so Fahrenheit to Celsius and pounds to kilograms.
You can select what to convert by entering something like “60hr to min=” and the message will show the result of the conversion – which is 3,900 minutes – in the predictive text field.
