Miami Beach – A 2020 and 2024 Summer Olympics track and field medalist was arrested Thursday night after a physical altercation with four police officers in Miami Beach, according to police.

Police said Fred Kerley, 29, of southwest Miami-Dade County, got into an argument with officers and a physical altercation ensued in which he was thrown to the ground and subdued with a stun gun. The agency released body camera video of the incident.

CBS News Miami has edited the video to remove the profanity.

Police on Friday added probable cause for robbery/violence and domestic battery arrests on May 7, 2024, stemming from a physical altercation with a woman he had been married to for three years and whom he had known for ten years. They live together with their three children. Police said they were unable to locate him at the time.

He already faces charges of assaulting a police officer and resisting an officer without violence. During his first court appearance Friday afternoon, Circuit Judge Mindy Glazer found no probable cause to charge disorderly conduct/violating the peace and allowed him to be released on his own recognizance.

His attorney, Richard L. Cooper, said Klee will be released Saturday. “These new charges stem from a false allegation that has resurfaced due to the new media attention generated by last night’s false arrest,” the attorney said.

“I can say that Mr. Klee is a record-breaking athlete who has honorably and successfully represented our country in the Olympics multiple times. These charges are false and demonstrate the brutal police state that Miami Beach has become.

Kerley’s girlfriend Cleo Rahman, 32, a national DJ known as Dj Sky High Baby, also faces charges of resisting police but no violence charges because “her actions caused several officers to divert their attention,” and will no longer assist police in dealing with her,” according to the arrest report.

Florida halo law goes into effect Wednesday, Violations to establish a 25-foot buffer zone around first responders to protect them during the line of duty are classified as a Class II misdemeanor.

Lachman, a resident of Burbank, Calif., recorded what happened on his cell phone.

“What are you doing,” she says in the video. “He’s Team America.”

Rahman told CBS Miami: “He was not aggressive. That doesn’t mean the police had the right to push him and attack him for no reason. He’s an athlete. He’s on Team USA. It’s not like he’s in It’s so unlucky for him to play for another team and I want to go back home to Los Angeles and I’ve never been arrested or in trouble before.”

Police disputed her remarks.

“Mr. Klee struck one of our officers and pushed him in the chest, at which point the officers placed their hands on him and tased him,” Officer Christopher Bays told CBS News Miami. “This information To be very clear, when you see police involved at a scene, please keep your distance.”

At 11:22 p.m., Miami Beach police officers responded to an investigation in the 100 block of Ninth Street. According to the arrest report: “Officers were then approached by a black male wearing a gray hoodie and black pants who was acting aggressively and concerned about his vehicle, which was parked at the scene.”

Police said Klee got into an argument with officers and his girlfriend, who tried to calm the situation by pulling him away from them.

Despite police efforts to de-escalate the situation, he walked up to an officer.

The police report states that one officer “threw multiple hammer fists” at Klee’s head and elbow.

“Stop resisting!” an officer said to Klee as he lay on the ground, according to body camera footage.

“I’m not resisting, let me go, man,” Klee responded.

Police said one of the officers used a dart stun gun and struck Klee in the lower right side of his back, causing him to fall to the ground.

“The defendant’s actions disrupted pedestrian traffic and caused a crowd to gather on the nearest sidewalk,” the police report said. “The defendant’s actions also endangered the safety of employees and patrons of nearby restaurants and Ocean Drive.”

He was taken to Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami and then to Turner-Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

“This could have been avoided,” Beth said. “Our officers made multiple attempts to de-escalate the situation, but Mr. Klee kept pushing our officers.”
