Tutor Perini Stock Rises as New CEO Takes Helm at Construction Firm

Mentor Perini’s Stock (TPC) Thursday as the construction company’s new CEO took over.

The company said that as part of the planned transition, its former president Gary Smalley has succeeded Ronald Tutor, who has served as chairman and CEO since 2008. Mentor will continue to serve as executive chairman.

Smalley became president in 2023, when the company announced a formal transition plan, and he took over as CEO on January 1, 2025. Smalley served as executive vice president and CFO Since September 2015. Tutor noted that he has spent the past 24 years as an executive at rival Fluor (FLR).

Smalley said he was committed to “further advancing our strategy as we execute on recent major project wins, return to profitability and pursue growth opportunities that enhance shareholder value.”

Tutor Perini shares rose about 2% shortly after the open and have soared about 175% in the past year.
