Trent Alexander-Arnold: Should Liverpool right-back join Real Madrid?
Sean: Trent is a big boy. He will make his own choice. I would love for him to stay. The sadness hanging over it all is that we fans fear he will end up like Michael Owen, giving up his legendary status and traveling to Spain. I hope that when Alexander-Arnold returns to Anfield he gets a better reception than Owen (who was largely ignored). Madrid is a top club and a wonderful city. But this isn’t Liverpool!
Lars: Trent has been at the club for 20 years and won everything, so you can understand if he wanted a change of scenery. What he needs to understand is that he will never be as loved by the Madrid fans as he was at Anfield. He will never captain the club he loves and he will never win the Ballon d’Or for whichever club he plays for. He will always be welcomed back to Anfield, but not with open arms – like Owen and McManaman he has tarnished his legacy.
Fraser: While Salah and Virgil have made it clear they want to stay (and I’m fairly confident both will sign extensions), Trent has been silent, which makes me fear the worst. What pisses me off the most is that he tried to leave for free and Liverpool got nothing in return. This is very disappointing and very selfish on the part of Trent and I just hope it doesn’t undermine or derail our campaign. The good news is that Connor Bradley is returning.
Tommy: Of those three players, he’s the one we can afford to lose. He is a luxury player who often lives up to the hype surrounding him. We already have a ready replacement, so he’s good to go. It’s getting boring now. Like Owen, he will serve as a substitute in Madrid.
so: Firstly, as a lifelong Liverpool fan, losing Trent will be a huge blow… and rightfully so. I think he’s made up his mind, though, and who can blame him? When Real Madrid comes knocking, you open the door! The process of settling in will be much easier as he struck up a friendship with Jude Bellingham during his time with England. Now Liverpool need to work hard to get the best deal possible (if it’s not too late).
