Justin Langer: London Spirit appoint Australian as head coach
Former Australia opener Justin Langer has been appointed as head coach of London Spirit.
Langer, 54, joins the Hundred following the departure of Trevor Bayliss last month after three years in charge.
Langer played 105 Test matches for Australia and served as head coach of his country from 2018 to 2022, winning the Ashes twice and lifting the T20 World Cup in 2021.
Lange said: “I’m delighted to have been appointed to this role with London Spirit and excited to experience The Hundred.”
“I’m looking forward to competing later this year and working with such talented players and coaches.”
The Spirit is hoping Langer can turn around the team’s fortunes after a rough two seasons.
Bayliss guided Spirit to the knockout stages in his first season, but they have finished bottom of the table since then, winning just three of 16 games over the past two years.
Langer previously coached Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash and was also the head coach of Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League.
The appointment brings Langer back to Lord’s County, having played overseas for Middlesex between 1998 and 2000.
