Cyprien Sarrazin: Skier leaves intensive care after horror crash

French skier Cyprien Sarrazin has successfully undergone surgery for brain bleeding after falling during training and has now left the intensive care unit.

Zalatzin, 30, was airlifted to hospital after losing control while training for a downhill World Cup in Bormio, Italy, on Friday. On the same day, he underwent surgery to reduce the intracranial hematoma.

“His health is stable. He has been discharged from the intensive care unit and admitted to the nursing ward,” the French Ski Federation said in a statement on Thursday.

“The remainder of the medical assessment (foot and knee pain) was very reassuring and, despite the severity of the impact, no other injuries were noted.

“The length of his absence has not yet been determined.”

Several skiers were injured in the past week at the Bermio ski resort, which will host some events at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics.

Italian skier Pietro Zazzi was airlifted to hospital and underwent surgery after an accident on Friday, while Swiss skier Josua Mettler suffered a knee injury in an accident on the same day Injuried.

Swiss skier Gino Caviezel was airlifted to hospital after suffering a serious crash during the World Cup super-G race in Bormio on Sunday.

The men’s alpine skiing competition at the 2026 Olympic Games will be held in Bormio, while the women’s competition will be held in Cortina d’Ampezzo, a five-hour drive away.
