Matheus Cunha: Wolverhampton Wanderers striker banned for two games

Wolves striker Matheus Cunha has been banned for two games by the FA following a clash with Ipswich security earlier this month.

The Brazilian striker has been accused of inappropriate conduct after elbowing an Ipswich Town staff member before snatching his glasses from his face.

Cunha was also fined £80,000 and will miss Wolves’ Premier League game against Nottingham Forest and their FA Cup third round tie against Bristol City.

The altercation occurred after Ipswich lost 2-1 at Molineux. Jack Taylor scored the winning goal for the visitors in stoppage time.

Cunha was found guilty of inappropriate conduct during the confrontation at the final whistle, and teammate Rayan Ait Nouri received a second yellow card in the tunnel.

Since the incident, 25-year-old Cunha has scored in wins over Leicester City and Manchester United, helping Wolves to victory Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.

He has scored 10 goals in 19 Premier League games this season, with Wolves in 17th place, one point above the relegation zone when they face Forest at home on Monday.
