United Cup: Katie Boulter and Charles Broom help Great Britain beat Argentina
Katie Boulter and Charles Bloom helped England beat Argentina in their first Confederations Cup Group F match.
Britain led 1-0 after Bolt defeated Nadia Podoroska 6-2 6-3, but Argentina’s Tomas Martin Echeverri overcame a stomach problem to win 3-6 6-3 6- 2 beat Billy Harris as Argentina fight back.
British No. 1 Bolt and 26-year-old Bloom defeated Maria Lourdes Carr and Echeverry 7-6 (7-4) 7-5 in the mixed doubles.
“It’s so exciting to win,” Bolt, 28, said.
“Very, very satisfied today. We played really well together considering it was our first time.”
Great Britain will face Australia in their next Group F match on January 1. Victory would send them into the quarter-finals in Perth, Australia.
The Confederations Cup begins in 2023, with the United States winning the inaugural title and Germany taking the title in 2024.
