Paddy Hill dies aged 80

Paddy’s Hill, one of Six men wrongly convicted The man responsible for the 1974 Birmingham pub bombings has died aged 80.

The Justice Against Justice Organization (MOJO) posted on Facebook that Mr Hill died peacefully at his home on Monday morning.

In November 1974, explosions occurred in two pubs in Birmingham city center (Mulberry Bush and Tavern in the Town), killing 21 people.

The Birmingham Six spent 17 years in prison for the bombings until their convictions were quashed in 1991.

After his release, Mr Hill founded Glasgow-based MOJO to help other incarcerated people despite being innocent of the crimes they were accused of.

MOJO said it offered its condolences to Mr Hill’s family “at this sad time”.

“We ask that you respect the family’s privacy,” the statement added.

“May he rest in eternal peace.”

Speaking in 2017, Mr Hill said a man claiming to be part of the group that planted the bomb had apologized to him Insulting those who have lost loved ones.

Other members of the Birmingham Six included Gerry Hunter, Johnny Walker, Hugh Callaghan, Richard McKennie and Billy Ball.

Mr Callaghan Died in 2023 at the age of 93Mr. McKenney died in 2006 at the age of 73.

Social Democratic Labor Party (SDLP) leader Claire Hanna said he was “decent, outspoken, combative and took no sides”.

She said he had “suffered many lifetimes of trauma and injustice.”
