NFL results & week 17 recap: Sam Darnold stars for Vikings, Saquon Barkley eyes record, Jayden Daniels makes play-offs
The NFC East has a new winner for a record 20th consecutive year after the Eagles hammered the Cowboys 41-7 behind Saquon Barkley’s 167 yards rushing.
The 27-year-old is the ninth player in history to surpass the 2,000-yard mark in a season. He’s aiming to match Eric Dickerson’s coveted record of 2,105 set in 1984, but may not get a chance to break it.
With the Hawks not playing next week, head coach Nick Sirianni would normally rest his star players for the playoffs.
“I always have to do what’s right for the football team to achieve what we need to do,” Sirianni said. “I have a lot to think about.”
Barkley needs 101 yards next week to get one of the NFL’s biggest marks, even though he’s played in more games than Dickerson, and that game happens to be against the New York Giants — who controversially let him go over the summer.
