Joe Root & Harry Brook nominated for ICC men’s cricketer of year
Former England captain Joe Root and batsman Harry Brooke have been shortlisted for the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year award.
Australian batsman Travis Head and Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah are the other two male nominees.
The 34-year-old Root is the leading Test batsman in the men’s game, having scored 1,556 runs in 17 Tests in 2024 at an average of 55.57.
He was briefly replaced by teammate Brooke earlier this year, but Root disappointingly regained his place in the third Test in 25 years in New Zealand.
Brooke has had an otherwise stellar year, culminating in October when he scored his first triple hundred in Pakistan.
The Yorkshire batsman smashed 317 off 322 balls in Multan to help England win the title Third highest total in test history.
Australia’s Annabelle Sutherland, New Zealand’s Mellie Kerr, South Africa’s Laura Walvat and Sri Lanka’s Chamari Atapasu were nominated for the women’s award.
Earlier this year, Cole led the New Zealand team to win the T20 World Cup, defeating Walwat’s South Africa team in the final.
The 24-year-old took a record 15 wickets in the tournament, while Walvat took the most runs (223) in the United Arab Emirates.
