This feature is useful for people who use their iPhone for business or work or to keep track of instructions given over the phone. After the call is recorded, it will be saved to your phone and you can listen to the call or read the call history.
Here’s how to record a call and read the call history in iOS 18.1. Before recording a call, you should check your local laws regarding call recording. According to legal resources website justicemany states are one-party consent states, meaning only one person must consent to the recording of a phone call. In some states, such as California, it is illegal to record a call without the consent of both parties.

Recording calls on iPhone is very easy. Once you’re on the phone with someone, tap the symbol in the left corner of the screen (looks like a soundbar) and the record button.
After clicking the button, you and the person on the other line will hear a three-second countdown and an automated voice: “This call will be recorded,” followed by a tone.
You can stop call recording at any time by hanging up the call or clicking the “Stop” button on the screen. If you click the Stop button, the same automated voice from before will say: “This call is no longer being recorded.” You can then continue your conversation without being recorded.
Where to find call recordings on iPhone
After the call is recorded, you can find the recording in the Notes app. It will be saved as a “Call Recording” in the app, but you can rename it whatever you want, just like any other note in the app.
Click Play to listen to the call, or click Transcript below to read a transcript of the call.
To listen to the recording, click the note, then click Play button. You can also fast forward or rewind the recording just like any other song or podcast.
If you would like to read the transcript, please click transcript lower than Play button, the transcript will take up your entire screen. You can click on the three dots (…), then click on the upper right corner Add text to notes Transfer a copy of the transcript to the recording notes. This allows you to scroll through the transcript and listen to the recording simultaneously. You can read the transcript in the Transcript page while listening to the recording, but this can be problematic and sometimes the transcript disappears before reappearing after a second.
Once you’ve added the transcript to your note, you can scroll through the transcript to find what you’re looking for. To save time, you can also click on the three dots (…) and click on the upper right corner Find in comments Search the transcript for a specific word.
