South Africa qualify for World Test Championship final by beating Pakistan
South Africa mustered the nerve to defeat Pakistan by two wickets on the fourth day of their first Test at Centurion to secure their place in the final of June’s World Test Championship.
The Proteas fell from 96-4 to 99-8 after chasing a 148-run win, which included the loss of three wickets for four scoreless balls.
Pakistan seamer Mohammad Abbas, playing his first Test match in more than three years, recorded 6-54, but the hosts found an unlikely batting hero: No. 10 Kagiso Rabada (Kagiso Rabada).
He struck 31 not out off 26 balls, partnering Marco Jansen on 51 balls, who finished 16 not out.
The win keeps South Africa at the top of the Test Championship standings and ensures they will reach the final for the first time and face either Australia or India at Lord’s.
Speaking about the win, captain Temba Bavuma said: “(It was) an exciting win.
“It was a good advert for Test cricket, a bit of a rollercoaster. It was tough for us but happy that we were able to get the result.”
