A look back at the life of Jimmy Carter
Former US President Jimmy Carter, who rose from obscurity on a peanut farm in his native Georgia to the nation’s highest office, has died.
He died at the age of 100. Carter served as the 39th president from 1977 to 1981 and lived longer than any other president after leaving the White House.
He was defeated in his re-election bid by Ronald Reagan. He has remained active since leaving the White House, conducting humanitarian work with the Carter Center in recent years.
In 2002, he won the Nobel Peace Prize for his work.
