Scottie Scheffler Christmas dinner injury: World number one to miss start of season
World No. 1 Scotty Scheffler will miss the first two weeks of the 2025 PGA Tour season after undergoing surgery for a hand injury he sustained while cooking Christmas dinner.
The 28-year-old American has withdrawn from next week’s season opener at Sentinel Field.
Scheffler is then expected to miss the Sony Open, also in Hawaii, before returning to action at the American Express Championship in California from January 16-19.
Scheffler’s manager Blake Smith announced the news in a statement released on Friday, saying: “While preparing dinner on Christmas Day, Scottie was stabbed in the palm of his right hand by broken glass.
“Small shards of glass remained in the palm and required surgery. He was told he should be back to 100 per cent in three to four weeks.”
“The next race he’s scheduled to play is the American Express.”
Scheffler was recently named the PGA Tour Player of the Year for the third consecutive season.
He won nine titles, seven of them on the U.S. Tour, including his second at The Players Championship and the Masters.
Scheffler also won Olympic gold in Paris, and his victory at the Tour Championship secured his first FedEx Cup victory in an eventful season while also warming up for the second round of the PGA Championship Arrested and locked in a cell On the way to Valhalla Golf Club.
All charges were later dropped.
