Ryan Elias: Wales hooker misses Scarlets derby against Dragons
Scalais hope hooker Ryan Elias can recover from a neck injury and play some role in the European Challenge Cup group stages, which ends next month.
Head coach Dwayne Peel said Elias will be unavailable for the United Rugby Championship (URC) derby against the Dragons at Llanelli on January 1.
“He’s slowly getting there,” Peel said.
“I don’t think he’s fit for New Year’s Day but he’s been part of what we’re doing.
“We’re not going to risk him on that until he gets some strength back.
“He’s a huge loss because he was an important leader and player for us and we look forward to having him back.”
Peel hopes Elias will be available for the Challenge Cup trip to Gloucester on January 10 or the home game against Vanna eight days later.
Wales winger Blair Murray is back in action against the Dragons after missing the Reds’ final derby against the Ospreys with a hamstring problem.
