Daryl Jacob: Grand National-winning announces retirement following Limerick win
Grand National-winning jockey Darryl Jacobs, who won the Impaire Et Passe in the Forne Novices’ Chase at Limerick on Saturday, will retire on Sunday.
The 41-year-old Irishman won the Group 1 race in Limerick aboard the Willie Mullins-trained No. 8-13, which he has retained for a long time A favorite racing boat of owners Simon Munir and Isaac Souede.
Jacobs won the 2012 Neptune Collonges National Championship after missing a long period due to injury.
He had said a few months ago that this would be his last season in the saddle but he would not wait until the end of the current national hunt and would instead end his career on the final day of the Leopardstown Christmas meeting.
Jacobs told Sportinglife.com: “It was the right decision at the right time. I’ve worked really hard to come back from injury this season and I know I have some good opportunities this Christmas, including one in grade.
“To ride the Impaire Et Passe there and win a Group 1 race, it’s hard to beat that now and to finish at Leopardstown, where I won my first Group 1 race, was a great feeling.
“I’ve always wanted to retire on my own terms, on good horses, and Impaire Et Passe is one of our best horses. He’s very special to me.”
