Man Utd: Ruben Amorim says job is in ‘danger’ if his side does not start winning
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim says the huge fee paid to bring him in will not protect him from the sack if he fails to build a winning team.
While United sources have stressed there is full support for the new manager within Old Trafford, recent results and performances have left some fans nervous.
Wolves beat Wolves 2-0 at Molineux on Boxing Day, with away fans booing the team at the final whistle and many quickly exiting the pitch, with players having to make their way to the tunnel. Acknowledge the hundreds of empty yellow seats.
“The Manchester United manager will never feel comfortable no matter what,” Amorim said.
“You can say I’ve been here a month and have had four training (sessions) and we’re not winning. That’s the reality.”
Amorim has taken seven points from seven Premier League games since taking charge last month, just one more than fellow Portuguese Vito Pereira, who has won two games since becoming Wolves boss. .
Amorim suffered five defeats in his first 10 games, the worst record for any new United manager since Walter Crickmer, who started as club secretary in the 1930s.
The situation went wrong when CEO Omar Berrada flew to Lisbon to offer Amorim the job following the firing of Erik ten Hag on October 28. Quite unexpected.
United were so convinced of Amorim that they paid Sporting Lisbon £10.6m in compensation to release him from his contract.
But Amorim believes that won’t save him if his results don’t improve.
“I know every manager is at risk if we don’t win, whether they pay a buyout or not,” he said. “I love it because this is the job.”
