Kali Reis: World champion boxer and Golden Globe nominee on her struggles to fit in
Reis has not competed since defeating Jessica Kamara in November 2021 to add the WBO light welterweight title to her WBA belt.

Taking no chances, Reis found a new outlet.
“In the process of quitting, the acting thing happened. I actually went to the channel and got the (acting) job,” Reis said.
“It’s not like I have a secret plan that I’m not going to fight and when I’m going to perform, I’m going to get people hyped.
“I had nothing planned. I auditioned myself at home for a year before it came to fruition. It was divine timing.”
Reis grew up in an artistic family. Her father played keyboards and toured with Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, her mother was a singer and ballet dancer, and her grandmother was a member of a drama club called citamard – dramatic spelled backwards.
“My mom used to take me to church performances. Music, dance, art and expression have always been a part of everyday life in my home,” Reis said.
Reiss made his film debut in a film called “Catch a Fair Man” and then had another role in “Asphalt City” starring Sean Penn.
Rhys broke into the mainstream when she starred as no-nonsense police officer Evangeline Navarro in the hit TV series True Detective: Night Country alongside Jodie Foster.
Just three years into showbiz, Reis is thriving.
Rhys made history alongside Lily Gladstone by becoming the first Native American woman to be nominated for an Emmy this year, and she also received a Golden Globe nomination.
“I’m lucky to be around people who are masters in their fields and who are committed to doing their jobs and being good people,” Reiss said.
“I learn so much from their presence and their energy. I love being the goofiest person in the room because now I’m surrounded by really smart people and all I have to do is listen, watch, observe and learn ”
