Australia vs India: Steve Smith century puts hosts in control at MCG

It was a tough day for India, who struggled with the ball but not with the bat, leaving them well behind in the match.

Mohammed Siraj’s bowling received some particularly aggressive treatment and he ended up with figures of 0-122.

The visitors then got off to a poor start with the bat and Rohit Sharma’s form continued to decline.

The captain advanced from six to opener but lasted just five deliveries as an ugly ill-timed pull ball went straight to Bolan at mid-wicket.

Rohit has scored just a half-century in the last 14 innings and his highest score of just 18 in the last 8 innings.

India’s innings turned from ridiculous to brilliant as KL Rahul was bowled over mid-on by a superb delivery from Cummins before chipping the ball off and slicing off the top of the stumps.

Kohli and Jaiswal’s 102-run partnership gave India a chance to get back into the match, but they lost 3 wickets for 6 runs in a horrific 25 minutes before the end of the match.

Jaiswal pushed the ball straight to Cummins at mid-off and started a single but never got on the board. Kohli remained unmoved at the non-striker’s end, leaving Jaiswal in trouble.

Bolan, at his home turf, lured Kohli out off the stumps before he bowled the ball to Alex Carey for 36 before wicketkeeper Dipu was caught in the penultimate over of the day. Sen Lyon caught at short leg.
