Nigeria’s NNPC Steps Up Environmental Commitment with OGMP 2.0
NNPC Limited has officially joined the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP) 2.0, reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability and its goal of achieving net-zero methane intensity by 2030. The partnership, led by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), provides a framework for accurate measurement, reporting and best practices to reduce methane emissions from the oil and gas industry. Previously, NNPC signed a memorandum of understanding with TotalEnergies to deploy the Airborne Ultralight Spectrometer for Environmental Applications (AUSEA) technology aimed at monitoring and reducing methane emissions from its upstream operations. The collaboration, highlighted at COP28 in Dubai, enables NNPC to accurately monitor methane levels, thereby enhancing compliance with global environmental standards. By integrating such advanced technologies, NNPC continues to lead the transformation of the Nigerian petroleum industry towards more sustainable and responsible practices.
