Man Utd food hygiene rating cut after mouse droppings found
Rat droppings were found at Manchester United’s Old Trafford ground, leading inspectors to downgrade the football club’s food hygiene rating.
A council environmental health officer downgraded the club’s rating from four to two out of five following a visit in November, despite no faeces being found in the actual kitchen.
The club said a “robust pest control system” was in place at the venue, which included “multiple weekly inspections” of all catering areas.
Trafford City Council said it was working closely with the club to make “necessary improvements”.
Food Standards Agency ratings range from 0 (needs urgent improvement) to 5 (very good).
United’s new rating re-rates it from good to “needs some improvement”.
According to the club, around 250,000 people enjoy food prepared on site at Old Trafford each season.
The club’s pest control team were quickly contacted after the rodent droppings were discovered.
“If an incident of this nature does occur, appropriate action will be taken immediately,” the club said.
The relegation comes amid wider discussions about Manchester United’s new stadium. The club is expected to reveal its plans next year.
