American Airlines Experiences ‘Technical Issue’ on Big Travel Day

The FAA cancels a brief nationwide ground stop required by American Airlines (Asian Airlines Association) Christmas Eve, one of the busiest travel days of the year.

“A technical issue impacted a U.S. flight this morning,” American Airlines reportedly said. “Our teams are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and we apologize for the inconvenience to our customers.”

Americans are expected to do a lot of traveling this holiday season. The American Automobile Association (AAA) estimated earlier this month that more than 119 million people will travel at least 50 miles from home between December 1 and New Year’s Day, breaking a record set in 2019. More than 7.8 million of them are expected to travel. Fly, AAA says.

Forecasters expect snow and rain across the Northeastern United States and other areas by early Wednesday, as well as thunderstorms in parts of California and some Gulf Coast states, according to National Weather Service maps released Tuesday morning.

U.S. stocks fell less than 1% about an hour before the opening bell on Tuesday. They are up about 25% this year.
