The Smithsonian Looks at How the Slave Trade Shaped the World
While the painful history of slavery has been represented in numerous museum exhibits, a new exhibit at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture takes a slightly different approach. It’s called “The Awakening of Slavery” and is intended to illustrate the global impact of the slave trade. While the enormity of the topic can often overwhelm people, museums have worked hard to present history in a way that allows visitors to understand the human toll and the geopolitical reshaping of the world.
