Robbie Henshaw: Ireland and Leinster centre signs new IRFU deal
Ireland and Leinster center Robbie Henshaw has signed a new two-year contract with the IRFU until the 2027-28 season.
The 31-year-old is one of five players to win five Six Nations titles for Ireland, along with Conor Murray, Cian Healy, Ian Henderson and Peter O’Mahony.
Since making his debut against the United States in 2013, Henshaw has made 77 appearances for the national team in green, scoring 10 goals in the process.
He started all three Tests on the British and Irish Lions’ 2021 tour of South Africa and made 95 appearances for Leinster, scoring 100 runs.
“This is a huge boost for my long-term future at the IRFU and I’m delighted to have secured this deal ahead of a busy period – playing rugby in Ireland is a huge privilege as we are well looked after, From a coaching, facilities, sports science and player management perspective,” Henshaw said.
“It is also an extremely competitive place for rugby and although we have had some success in recent years, there is still a desire within Irish rugby to move on. I believe my best days are ahead of me and I am excited to continue my journey in Ireland. “
IRFU Performance Director David Humphreys paid tribute to Henshaw’s contribution to Ireland over more than a decade.
“Since breaking into the first-team national team 11 years ago, Robbie has performed consistently in one of the most competitive areas of the Irish defence. Robbie is a consummate professional and a popular figure who continues to Set high standards.
“His performances in the recent Autumn Nations Series suggest there is much more to come from him and I’m delighted he will continue his career with Ireland and Leinster.”
