Philippine Ambassador Presents Credentials to President of Burkina Faso
Philippine Ambassador Merso Melehor presented his credentials to President Ibrahim Traore of the People’s Republic of Burkina Faso at the Presidential Palace in Ouagadougou, the capital, on Thursday, December 19, 2024.
President Traoré expressed his gratitude to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for his appointment as Ambassador to Burkina Faso. The president said he has tasked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkina Faso Overseas and other agencies to seek cooperation with the Philippines in areas beneficial to both countries.
Regarding Filipinos in Burkina Faso, the president said they are very welcome and expressed hope that they will be motivated to stay in the country.
Ambassador Melejo thanked President Traoré for the opportunity to present his credentials, adding that he aimed to work with the President’s official representatives to further strengthen relations between the Philippines and Burkina Faso at both the bilateral and international levels. .
Diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Burkina Faso were officially established on October 10, 2002. Most Filipinos in Burkina Faso have ties to academia, religious missions and the country’s strategic gold mining sector.
