Optimize Your Travels by Never Forgetting to Pack These 12 Essentials

I always look forward to my next trip. I’m one of those people who almost always schedules a trip, so I have something to look forward to. I’m eager to visit my friends in Philadelphia in January and my friends in Paris in the spring. Whether it’s a 2 hour road trip or a 10 hour flight around the world, I’m excited for the journey.

While traveling is exciting and eye-opening, I dread the packing and preparation stages, especially when I need to account for the ever-changing weather, temperatures, and climate. Even though I am a notorious over-packer and planner, there have been times when my packing process has completely messed up. (Don’t tell me I forgot my socks and pajamas.) While you can usually find what you need at your destination, you can save money and time simply by packing correctly ahead of time.

You’re probably less likely to forget things like clothes or shoes, but what about those less obvious items that will make your trip smoother and more comfortable? Whether you’ve already booked your trip or are planning ahead, these are 12 items you should never forget to pack.

1. Hygiene products and prescriptions

The last thing you want to forget during your trip is any necessary hygiene or medical supplies. While you can easily buy more deodorant to stay fresh while traveling, it’s more important to remember that these remedies will be difficult to replace once you reach your destination. This includes contact lensesbirth control, prescription Glasses and any other medications.

For women, most of the time we can plan a trip around our cycle, but sometimes life happens unexpectedly. Traveling without hygiene products, especially when you need them, can be expensive and uncomfortable. So, make it a habit to bring something with you. It’s better to have them and not need them than not have them but need them.

Also, don’t forget to pack sunscreen When you’re traveling during the summer or visiting a particularly sunny or tropical destination.

2. Reusable water bottles

If you’re spending several hours walking through city streets or going on a full-day hike in a national park, you’ll need to hydrate regularly. In some destinations, it’s not always easy to get water – not to mention how hot or humid it can be in certain climates – so it’s always helpful to have a refillable water bottle with you .

Of course, you can buy bottled water at your destination, but water is often expensive in popular tourist centers or hotels, and grocery or convenience stores aren’t always nearby, especially in rural or woodland areas.

this is a list some great water bottles. If the tap water in your destination is not potable, consider Water bottle with built-in filter.

3. Power bank

When you travel, you probably use your phone more—checking your boarding passes, finding places to go and directions to get there, staying in touch with friends and family back home, and taking hundreds of photos. All of this drains your battery, and interrupting your busy sightseeing schedule to charge your phone can be frustrating. Also, access to an electrical outlet is never guaranteed.

That’s why it’s always good to bring a portable device power bank with you. Power banks put power in your pocket, are convenient to use, and are usually not too expensive. I recommend getting one that is not only reliable, but can also charge your phone multiple times before needing to charge on its own.

4. Towels

While bus tours or subway tours are great fun, they aren’t always the neatest places to visit. While traveling, you may need to access “high touch” items such as remote controls, light switches, phones, doorknobs, faucet handles, etc. Therefore, maintaining hygiene is very important to prevent diseases.

Washing your hands may not always be an immediate option, so be sure to keep a few towels with you. Plus, the wipes should be able to get through the security checkpoint without any problems.

5. Quick-drying towels

Towels often come in handy and you never know when a towel can save the day. Maybe you got a spill on your clothes or got caught in a heavy rainstorm and need to be wiped dry as soon as possible. Or maybe you arrive at your hotel or Airbnb only to find they don’t provide towels.

Quick-drying towels aren’t the most luxurious option, but they are lightweight and easy to store when traveling. Best of all, they dry super fast, so you can clean them up and throw them in your bag without too much waiting.

6. Plastic bags

If there’s one travel essential that I swear by, it’s plastic bags. Need to pack your muddy shoes? plastic bag. Want to separate old dirty clothes from clean items? plastic bag.

While plastic or trash bags aren’t the most glamorous items to travel with, they serve a variety of purposes and don’t take up too much space in your suitcase.

7. Stowable backpack

I always pack too much stuff in my carry-on luggage. I want to bring my camera, hat, sunglasses, change of clothes, and some toiletries in case my checked luggage gets lost. But all these items quickly added up and I was left with very little space in my backpack. Usually when I’m wandering around a destination I’m going to, I don’t want to take them all with me.

I recommend bringing a smaller, preferably collapsible, backpack to use while traveling. This will save you from having to pack and repack your carry-on luggage. Plus, you can use it to carry souvenirs you pick up along the way.

8. Bottle protective cover

I come back from almost every trip with a bottle of wine or specialty beer as a souvenir. I love taking home a special bottle of beer, liquor, or wine to share with friends and family while telling them about my adventures.

But before that can happen, the bottle must actually complete its journey home. This means you need some form of protection. Many people are very fond of the method of putting the bottle in a sock or wrapping the bottle in clothing, but I prefer to pack a real protective bottle bag. I recommend one Protective bottle bag Features a padded and zippered top to help protect your clothing.

9. Drying sheet

To me, this is a given. When you walk for miles through various train stations, bus stations, airports and cities, you’re going to sweat a lot. Your shoes may pay the price.

Carry a few dryer sheets with you to help cover up shoe odors. When you return to your hotel or Airbnb at the end of the day, simply place a dryer sheet in each shoe to help your shoes air out.

10. One universal plug adapter

A travel adapter is a must-have.

You probably already know this. Anyway, let me warn you: if you travel abroad, you need a plug adapter. Outlets in the United States are different sizes than those overseas, which means you’ll need an adapter if you plan to use your electronics in other countries.

You can try buying them at your destination, but they can be expensive and hard to find. It’s a good idea to take a copy with you before you go to save time and money.

11. Travel Router

Okay, this might seem like overkill, but a travel router has saved me more than once. Internet connections are not always reliable when traveling or in some rural areas, so set up a Wired connection Almost always more reliable than wireless (especially in hotels). I feel safer traveling because I know I have a steady line to call in the event of an emergency to stay in touch with the group I’m traveling with, or to connect with loved ones back home.

Here’s some good news: Travel routers are often small, affordable, and easy to pack. You can buy one for $20 to $100, and they’re usually not much larger than a wall adapter.

12. A foldable down jacket or raincoat

Whether you’re heading to a tropical destination or walking the streets of a European city, it’s a good idea to pack an extra down jacket or raincoat (and an umbrella if you have room). Even if you check the weather forecast carefully, you might still get an unseasonable rainstorm or have a colder-than-expected night.

One of the best options that won’t weigh down your luggage is to bring a packable down jacket or raincoat that can be folded up easily. Trust me, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
