Mohamed Salah: Goals, assists, records – where does he rank among Premier League greats?
When we’re talking about some of the Premier League’s great forwards, where do all these numbers leave Salah?
Salah can already be considered a Liverpool legend, having won every major trophy with the club.
He scored 229 goals in 373 games, ranking fourth on the team’s all-time scorer list, only 12 goals behind third-placed Gordon Hodgson.
Roger Hunt (285 goals) and Ian Rush (346 goals) are good to some extent. At his current goals per game, Salah needs to play 190 more games to break this. A record. Not likely.
As far as Premier League superstars are concerned, Salah already ranks eighth on the scorer list with 172 goals.
In fact, his 229 goals in all competitions for Liverpool are four games ahead of Thierry Henry’s 228 for Arsenal.
Salah is just 15 goals behind fourth-top scorer Andrew Cole – not an impossible target by the end of the season.
What about assists? Salah matched Beckham’s 80 on Sunday to move into 10th place. He trails only second-placed Kevin De Bruyne with 34 assists.
Giggs, the Premier League’s assist king, is far ahead with 162, but he has played 353 more games than Salah currently does.
When you put goals and assists together, Salah ranks even higher.
His 252 goals in 279 Premier League games rank seventh all-time, while his goals per 1.1 game rate is also better than any player before him.
At the current pace, Salah will equal Alan Shearer’s record of 324 goals in 65 games.
It’s not impossible to sign a new contract, is it?
