Jean-Philippe Mateta: Crystal Palace trigger Frenchman’s contract extension
Crystal Palace have triggered an option in Jean-Philippe Matata’s contract to extend his stay at the club until 2027.
The 27-year-old Frenchman will enter the final 18 months of his contract at the end of the year, with his current contract expiring in June 2026.
But sources close to the matter revealed that BBC Sports Palace have used the option to keep him at Selhurst Park for a further two-and-a-half years.
The club has yet to officially confirm the news.
Matata and the Eagles have been in talks over a new contract over his goalscoring form in recent months.
The striker has been keen on playing European football during his career and has ambitions to represent France at the 2026 World Cup.
Mateta has become a key player for Crystal Palace and has flourished since Oliver Glasner took charge.
He scored 11 goals in the last 10 games of last season to help the Eagles rank 10th, and then scored 5 goals for the French national team at the Olympics, helping the team win the silver medal.
So far this season, the striker has made 21 appearances in all competitions, scoring 7 goals and providing 2 assists.
Crystal Palace currently sit 16th in the Premier League table and will travel to Bournemouth on Boxing Day (December 26).
