Ben Stokes: England Test captain out for at least three months with torn left hamstring

England Test captain Ben Stokes needs surgery for a torn left hamstring and has been ruled out of all cricket for at least three months.

Stokes, 33, suffered the injury while bowling on the third day of the third Test against New Zealand earlier this month.

This is the second time Stokes has torn his left hamstring this year, after he suffered the same injury while playing a hundred in August.

England said all-rounder Stokes will undergo surgery in January.

Stokes was omitted from England’s squad for India’s white-ball tour and Champions Trophy in January and February due to injury.

He was scheduled to play for MI Cape Town in the SA20 (South African Franchise T20 League) in January but will now miss the match.

England’s next Test is against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge in May.
