Tiger Woods and son Charlie, 15, tied for first in Orlando
Tiger Woods and his 15-year-old son Charlie were tied for the lead at the end of the first day of the PNC Championship in Orlando.
The pair shot 59 in the first round, with Bernhard Langer and his son Jason Langer and Vijay Singh and his son Kas (Qass) were at 13 under par together.
The 36-hole exhibition event, which ends Sunday, features current and former professional golfers competing with parents or children.
15-time major champion Tiger Woods and Charley are participating for the fifth time in the annual event, which also allows players to use golf carts.
The pair tied for fifth last year after finishing second in 2021.
“It’s a battle, so we’re trying to hit every shot for each other,” said Tiger Woods, 48.
“I thought we did a good job pretty much all day long. Charlie pretty much made most of the putts today.”
Charlie Woods added: “I didn’t hit it very well, but dad saved me a few balls and I rolled them in.”
Tiger Woods, playing his first tournament since the July Open, underwent back surgery in September and missed the cut for a third consecutive major championship.
‘I’m not competitive right now,’ Woods Tell the PGA Tour website, external said Friday. “But I just wish I could have that experience again.”
Asked about the time he was beaten by Charlie, he added: “Yeah, he beat me by nine holes.
“He hasn’t beaten me on 18 holes yet. That day is coming – I just extend it as long as I can.”
