PDC World Darts Championship: Luke Littler almost hits nine-darter in opening win
A tearful Luke Littler nearly hit a nine-dart as he began his fight for the PDC World Title with a dramatic 3-1 win over Ryan Meikle.
The 17-year-old made headlines around the world when he reached the tournament final in January but lost to Luke Humphreys.
Starting Saturday’s match, Littler fell just millimeters short of perfect darts in the double twelve, but posted a stunning average of 140.91 in the final.
In the end, he got so excited that he shortened the on-stage interview.
Littler got off to a slow start against Mikel, who hit two darts in the first set, but hit double 20 twice to take the lead.
Mikel didn’t look in awe of his fellow Brit and equalized, but Littler took the third set and exploded with energy in the fourth.
The tournament favorite hit three straight legs at 11, 10 and 11 darts, hitting four maximum 180s.
