Glasgow Warriors v Edinburgh: Hampden, sibling rivalry & the mental battle
Edinburgh players and coaches don’t like their mentality being questioned, and that’s fair enough.
However, there is a way to make these questions redundant. They fail to answer these questions season after season.
On paper, they can win this game, hands down. You worry about how they perform at 10 and whether Ross Thompson can control the game like we know his counterpart Tom Jordan can.
But elsewhere, they had cannon. Or there should be.
The game within the game, though, is a psychological game. Glasgow have shown their resilience time and time again. Even if they don’t play well, they’ll push for a win and either get a defeat bonus or a four-try bonus or both, as they did in Toulon last weekend.
Glasgow is resilient and can stand up to murder.
Edinburgh almost needs the stars to align perfectly to cross that line. They have suffered heavy defeats in the past, but when games turn into a war of attrition, they are unconvincing.
It’s infuriating because they have players. Of course, all the accolades Glasgow have received over the past few seasons must be driving them crazy. Of course, this anger can be exploited and turned against Glasgow. We are still waiting. Maybe this time.
