Fury vs Usyk 2: Ukrainian outpoints Briton to retain unified heavyweight world titles
Oleksandr Usyk defended his world heavyweight title against Tyson Fury and confirmed his status as one of the greats by narrowly winning again in their rematch in Saudi Arabia.
Usyk suffered his first career defeat seven months ago in a split decision loss to Britain’s Fury, and Usyk’s agility and desire to win prevailed once again at Riyadh’s Kingdom Arena as he retained WBA (Super), WBC and WBO titles.
The 36-year-old Fury was successful in the first half of the game. Some of the more eye-catching shots came from the Morecambe fighter, but the punch volume and cleanup came from the Ukrainian Usyk.
The three judges ultimately scored the 37-year-old champion 116-112.
Usyk is an Olympic gold medalist and former undisputed lightweight champion who extended his undefeated streak to 23 career wins.
Two-time world champion Fury has only lost to Usyk, and the two losses are a major blemish on his record of 34 wins and one draw.
